Reading this is not to play an
intellectual game
My love for you is just a spark
from the mighty frame
The overflowing kindness of my
heart is a grabbing loveliness
If we can shave off the trinity
from God
We will still not be relieving him
of some irksome weight
Rather we would be shearing him of
precisely what is so delightful about him
But this is rather hard going than
pointless
One that could surely be lopped off
With no consequence other than a
universal sigh of relief
“God is a mystery”
Who can know, why bother?
I can whisper in my most piously
hushed tone
Such sentiments score high for
their ring of reverence
And score pretty low for accuracy
Hard things get left
If we understand God so well, He
will cease to be God
Seeking to understand everything
about him is like walking on a slope
The first way is like a slippery,
sloping t-top goat path
On a stormy, moonless night, during
an earthquake
And when you walk this path, you
will miss God in the most terrible way
This thinking is catastrophic for a
healthy Christian living
This insight is like a stick of
dynamite in all our thought about God
Such is the cold and gloomy is the
place to which the dark goat path takes us
